The reason for the extreme success of apple and their iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch is due to the endless ability of customization and innovation. The ability to create applications specifically tailored to a person's needs is what the customer truly values. I will discuss three industries where the iPad applications are forging the industry as we know it. An iPad will become just as regular as the internet is seen at a typical business office.
As stated in the article, 'Three Ways the iPad Will Change Industry,' an app is currently being developed for high-end restaurants in which the typical paper menu would be substituted for a iPad version where customers could see pictures, video, and detailed descriptions of various entrees and appetizers. The article goes on to state that the costs generated by discarding paper menus for iPads would need to be brought into consideration, since iPads cost dramatically more than paper.
The technology that the iPad has brought to businesses can also be seen in the medical industry. Instead of using clipboards, doctors would use iPads to make comments about patients and to view their medical history. Databases could also be developed for the purpose of transferring a patient's records from one hospital to another and making them more accessible to doctors.

Another industry that is using the iPad is the coaching industry. You mentioned iPad's have an unlimited ability of customization; this season the entire University of Georgia coaching staff is using iPads to design plays and see them in motion. Coaches already work with EA sports to enter their plays into their game system and then test them against their opponents, now they can run these tests on their iPads. No more clipboards, notepads or white boards on the sidelines or in the locker rooms, in the future more coaches will adapt the iPad and more applications will be developed. Maybe a coach will only need to enter the score, down, time and team and the iPad will spit out the play to call from the team's database of plays based on some statistical analysis of the success of each play under given circumstances. Like you said, the innovation is endless. -Stephanie Bissell
ReplyDeleteI want an ipad for Christmas! The possibilities are endless..
ReplyDeleteWhile I do not coach a team or run a restaurant, I am sure it will just help make my life easier, right?
Personally, I would love it simply for the reader feature and the ability to carry it in my purse. While I just got my first phone that has internet, I am already ready for a major upgrade. Phones are soo small to read articles, blogs, and books on.
I am still waiting for the price to go down, so unless I join a company that is using an ipad, I will likely not be putting one in my purse for serveral years.
